SHORT TAKES ON THE DRIFTING WRECKAGE – OVERNIGHT: 

AND NOW FOR THE REAL NEWS – FROM THE PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER:    Energy costs for electric customers are going up by as much as 50% across Pennsylvania next week, the latest manifestation of across-the-board energy price increases impacting gasoline, heating oil, propane, and natural gas.  Eight Pennsylvania electric utilities are set to increase their energy prices on Dec. 1, reflecting the higher cost to produce electricity. Peco Energy, which serves Philadelphia and its suburbs, will boost its energy charge by 6.4% on Dec. 1, from 6.6 cents per kilowatt hour to about 7 cents per kWh. Energy charges account for about half of a residential bill.  PPL Electric Utilities, the Allentown company that serves a large swath of Pennsylvania including parts of Bucks, Montgomery, and Chester Counties, will impose a 26% increase on residential energy costs on Dec. 1, from about 7.5 cents per kWh to 9.5 cents per kWh. That’s an increase of $40 a month for an electric heating customer who uses 2,000 kWh a month.  Pike County Light & Power, which serves about 4,800 customers in Northeast Pennsylvania, will increase energy charges by 50%, according to the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission.  The citizens of Pennsylvania will undoubtedly be told that, if they don't accept these increases, the world will come to an end.

THE MEDIA FAILURE –  OVERNIGHT:  The failure of the media recently to get the American justice system right would cause a shakeup in any rational industry.  But the woke media is quite proud of itself, and positive change is not in the offing.  From the New York Post: 

There’s a reason that the Waukesha massacre has faded from the national media.

There’s a reason that MSNBC and CNN and CBS refer to it as merely a “parade crash” and quickly move on to other news.

There’s a reason that President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have not prejudged the violent, racist, BLM-supporting career criminal charged with murder for driving his SUV deliberately into a Christmas parade in the mostly white Wisconsin town of Waukesha on Sunday, killing six innocents, including an 8-year-old boy, and injuring 62 others.

There’s a reason the media are incurious about the hate-filled, anti-white social-media posts of suspect Darrell Brooks.

Waukesha is of no interest to these people, not just because the story does not serve their political purposes, as the Kyle Rittenhouse case did when they wanted to paint Donald Trump as a white supremacist.

No, they are burying the Waukesha story because it threatens the very core of the progressive revolution convulsing the country: criminal-justice “reform.”

Six people would still be alive if Milwaukee had not been hijacked by progressive prosecutors.

“The Milwaukee experiment,” it was called in a gushing Jeffrey Toobin article in the New Yorker in 2015, praising Milwaukee’s Democratic DA John Chisholm.

Elected in 2006, Chisholm is a leading light of the progressive prosecutor movement.

His office let out Brooks on $1,000 bail Nov. 16, after he allegedly punched his girlfriend in the face and deliberately ran over her with the SUV he allegedly used in Sunday’s attack. Brooks’ criminal record is over 50 pages long.

Chisholm feigns dismay at the low bail now, but it was part of his plan.

If a free press can save a nation, it can also destroy it. Media corruption is one of the major stories of our age.  However, since it's the media that tell the stories, we read little about it.  The internet, with new sources available to us, may save the nation yet.

SHORT TAKES ON THE DRIFTING WRECKAGE – OVERNIGHT:

DOPEY NOMINEE IS SUNK – FROM AXIOS:   Five Democratic senators have told the White House they won't support Saule Omarova to head the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, effectively killing her nomination for the powerful bank-regulator position.  The defiant opposition from a broad coalition of senators reflects the real policy concerns they had with Omarova, a Cornell University law professor who's attracted controversy for her academic writings about hemming in big banks.  Their opposition also hints at a willingness of some Democratic senators to buck the White House on an important nomination, even if it hands Republicans a political — and symbolic — victory.  Republicans have attacked the Kazakh-born scholar in remarkably personal terms, and turned her nomination into a proxy battle over how banks should be regulated.  Driving the news: In phone call on Wednesday, Sens. Jon Tester (D-Mont.) Mark Warner (D-Va.) and Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.), all members of the Senate Banking Committee, told Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) — the panel's chairman — of their opposition.  They're joined in opposing her by Sens. John Hickenlooper (D-Colo.) and Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.).  She's a far-left ideologist, probably a Marxist, and Soviet-trained.  I have no idea how she got picked for the job.  I doubt if Biden even knows her.  Who's really running this administration?

THE DEM PANIC EVEN EXISTS ON THANKSGIVING – OVERNIGHT:  The reality is even worse than previously believed.  From dailywire.com: 

New surveys from Democrat Party strategists reportedly show that the party’s brand is in shambles nationwide as the Biden administration deals with skyrocketing inflation, rising fuel costs, a continued disaster on the U.S. Southern Border, fallout from the disaster in Afghanistan, and numerous other problems.

“What they discovered, largely through focus groups and polling, was even worse than expected,” Politico reported. “The problems cut far deeper than the failings of their gubernatorial nominee, Terry McAuliffe, or President Joe Biden’s flagging approval ratings. Rather, the Democratic Party’s entire brand was a wreck.”

People who voted for Democrat President Joe Biden could not name anything that Democrats had done “except a few” who pointed to the infrastructure bill, which was bipartisan. The voters could not say what the Democrat Party stood for or what they were doing on the national level.

“Less than a year ahead of midterm elections, in which even Democrats widely expect they will lose the House and, possibly, the Senate, the party is confronting an identity crisis,” the report added. “It isn’t just Biden’s cratering public approval ratings, inflation, or the precedent that the party in power typically loses seats in a president’s first midterm.”

Politico noted that a Democrat strategist who advises the party’s major donors said after the House passed Biden’s massive far-left social spending bill that it was “[t]oo late. We’re f—ed.”

The report said that skyrocketing inflation, a lack of workers at stores, and supply chain disruptions were having a significant negative impact on the people’s view of the economy.

The most devastating part of the report was the finding that everything the Democrats have been banking their future on — the bipartisan infrastructure bill and the far-left social spending bill — “show few signs of helping them at the ballot box.”

The focus groups found that “2020 Biden voters had little positive to say about him right now” and that “many described disappointment or a sense that he is not doing well.”

COMMENT:  Confirmation of what we see every day – a once-great political party with almost no connection to the American people.  The voters are smarter, and better informed, than the political professionals think they are.  They see a Democratic Party that has rejected and buried its own history, and most of its great alumni.  Jack Kennedy couldn't get into today's party, and probably wouldn't want to join.  Read his inaugural address and imagine a modern Democratic, group-identity candidate speaking those words. 

I'm surprised there isn't yet a movement for a new, center-left party.  But that could come after next year's election.
